HIPAA

Privacy Vs. Security

Privacy protects patient's rights over the use and disclosure of Protected Health Information (PHI)

Security protects unauthorized access to Protected Health Information (PHI) and the loss of PHI.

There is much more to becoming HIPAA compliant than having a Notice of Privacy Practices. You must have a HIPAA manual with Policies and Procedures, forms, etc. to be compliant. We can help you with this process.

Do you have your NPI? Are you using the correct forms?
Do you have a contingency plan? Is PHI in electronic form protected from unauthorized access?

Lower Columbia Medical Billing can assist you in becoming compliant. We can determine if there are any privacy and security gaps in your office and make recommendations to help you reach compliancy.

Medicare will start denying Part B and DME MACS claims in October, 2007 for claims that do not have an NIPI that is matched to your Medicare ID number. If the pair is not found on the Medicare NPI crosswalk, the claims will reject.

Still confused? Call us for more information and we can explain the process so you will be ready for this new regulation.
